What it builds

Dominion makes AuraNet, software that pulls sensors and radios into one picture for the people running an operation. It is also developing Scout, an uncrewed aircraft meant to fly alongside crewed fighters.

Why it matters

About 70 cents of every dollar Canada spends on military hardware goes to American suppliers. A domestic supplier could give the country more say over what it fields in its own north.

Risks
  • ?Defense procurement is slow. An exercise with the Canadian Armed Forces is not a contract, and a government can cancel one at any point.
  • ?Nearly all of the demand it is chasing comes from one customer, and from a political mood between Canada and the United States that could change.
  • ?Scout has been funded and announced, not flown. The company is aiming for a first flight in late 2028 at the earliest.
